My Skincare Dream
Since I was young, I always knew that I wanted to start my own brand. To have something out there in the world that was made, and owned by me. The thought of it alone was amazing, and I saw myself doing just that. The only thing left for me was to figure out exactly what I wanted to do. It remained unknown to me, until a couple of years ago.
I always loved making my own things, whether the task was big or small, I’ve always loved DIYs and enjoyed spending my spare time creating new products, recipes and so on! It started off as a hobby and something that I wanted to make into a career.
Out of everything skincare products where probably my favorite to make for many reasons. It consisted of many things that I didn’t have to actually go out and buy, many of the ingredients needed were simple, and it was useful for everyday.
I started out by making my own body scrubs that turned out amazing! (even though my mom would complain about me using all the sugar) I then went on making body butters mostly made of shea butter from back home. I gifted this out to family members + friends, and they loved it!
Soon after, I thought of the idea to start up my own skincare line! For 2 years, my time consisted of setting up business deadlines that I would constantly miss, and coming up with amazing ingredients to add in my products, all while basically educating myself on the basics of skincare, and what would pair well together with different types of skin.
I had my fair share of trial and error, and at times I did feel discouraged. I remember months would pass by without me doing anything for my business dream to become an actual reality. The thought of bringing my idea out into the world only for it to fail scared me the most, and often at times that was the main reason for me slowing down.
But Alhamdulillah (Thank God) even through all of this, I always had snapbacks which would push me even harder than before to reach my goal. I told only a few amount of people about my plan, and had encouragement from both friends and family which fueled me even more! Knowing that I could possibly have the potential to represent and encourage fellow people and youth specifically to follow through on whatever their goals in life where was amazing.
After constant prayer and renewals of intentions, I finally launched my skin care line in the middle of December. I told myself that my goal was to make at least 10 sales that month but to my surprise, I ended up selling out on all my items around 1 week after!
The best part for me was seeing all the support I had from everyone which mainly consisted of strangers I have never spoken to nor seen. From hundreds of retweets to the random shares that people did to help promote my business, It was an amazing feeling to know that many people supported me and my dreams, and it was also reassuring for me to know that I am definitely on the right track.
I’m still in the beginning stages of the business world and have a long way to go, and i’m just now seeing the beauty in the process. Slowing down is not an option for me, as I do have deadlines for myself that I don’t plan on missing this time! Looking back at my journey, one piece of advice I would give to myself is to just be patient and consistent.
I’ve learned that success is inevitable to the one who is constantly working towards achieving whatever it is they want in life. Being on the move regardless of what pace you are on, will eventually get you to your destination. It may take longer or shorter depending on how much work and effort you put into it, but none the less, you will still arrive.
Patience in yourself and in your plan will be of aid to you on your journey, and help you through those times when you feel like giving up, or those times where you think that your goal won’t happen for you in due time. If it is meant for you, by all means it will come your way as long as you are patient enough to see it through.
